Week 6 - Non-Scale Victories & Lab Measures
We All Need To Look Beyond the Scale! Understanding a weight-inclusive approach includes spotting your wins! This week, learn what non-scale measures to focus on to measure progress!
You are ready for a new way of measuring progress—one that doesn’t require you to cringe at the sight of a bathroom scale. In chapter 1 you learned why the numbers on the scale aren’t the focus of diabetes management. Whether you’re Pat (trying to prevent diabetes), Rene (newly diagnosed), Hana (living with diabetes after years of prediabetes), or Debbie (someone who’s heard it all), this chapter is for you.
What Are Non-Scale Victories?
“Non-scale victories” (NSVs) are all the ways you can measure success that have absolutely nothing to do with your weight. Think stable target blood glucose levels, improve labs (cholesterol), lower blood pressure, smoother energy throughout the day, improved mood, or even something as simple as feeling more confident telling Aunt Martha, “I’m good with my meal choices, thanks.”
This chapter aims to spotlight how these victories—alongside certain lab measures—can reveal real progress and enhance your well-being.
