What Is Self-Compassion?

Self-compassion, in a nutshell, is about treating yourself like you would a dear friend—especially when you’re struggling. It’s not sugarcoating the truth or refusing to make changes. Instead, it’s an approach that says, “Yes, I’m doing my best right now,” and acknowledges that messing up is part of being human. This is especially important in diabetes care, where “mess-ups” might mean seeing a higher blood glucose reading than expected or feeling utterly confused about your care plan.
