What is the Gut Biome? Your gastrointestinal (GI) tract is home to a dynamic and changing population of microorganisms, which are referred to as the gut microbiota.
Lots of things, including your diet, contribute to your gut biome. But why is it important? Intestinal bacteria play a crucial role in maintaining your immune system. When the gut biome is out of balance, it is associated with inflammatory diseases (like arthritis) and overall health. You can also feel bloated, gassy, and uncomfortable.
The gut biome is a new area of practice in nutrition, and there are no standard recommendations. Therefore, I approach this using logic. Here are three things to do to improve your gut biome.
Introduce gut bacteria
Feed wanted gut bacteria
Stop feeding unwanted gut bacteria
We now understand that gut bacteria (both the wanted and unwanted) play an amazing role in your physical health, overall mood, and epigenetics, which is how and when your genetic propensity may be expressed.
